There’s ways to CLEARLY state you enjoy the art, and not the artist. Rereading books you’ve purchased years ago, watching movies you’ve purchased years ago yeah. And yes buying new HP merch does give her money so it is “supporting” her, but there’s only so much you can do. I definitely enjoy HP, I’m not as into it was I was say 2 years ago, but I’ll still interact with fan edits and crap💀

Harry Potter, yes. JK Rowling, NO.

You can support art without supporting the artist. People do it with all sorts of problematic people.

I think we should take into account the marauders fandom, who rely only on fanmade content. At this point the only thing relating to Jkr is the character name. The fandom actively adds diversity to the characters (in many different forms) while completely tradhing jkr

You can choose to love the art and hate the artist. Fuck Rowling but love Harry Potter

JKR has openly stated multiple times that she sees ANY kind of support or interaction (even entirely fan interaction without giving her any money) as directly supporting her views.

Harry Potter no. You can not continue spreading word of mouth of this series without supporting jkr. she sees support of harry potter as supporting her views

you can not separate the two. she sees support of her books as supporting her hate

You can 100% separate the two. I don’t buy the books I use others that other people have bought and watch the free movies. Just like any other art and artist you can separate the two

No, you really can’t. Not when she’s still breathing and benefitting from it.

There are a few things that you don’t notice as a kid (racism, antisemitism, fascism to name a /few/) but mostly it’s because JK Rowling is very very VERY transphobic, particularly to trans women. She donates a lot of the money she earns in royalties to anti-trans organizations. I myself enjoy the memories and the movies and Drarry fics but art vs artist is a difficult topic to discuss depending on the person.

i agree with all of this except the merch bit. buying merch directly gives her money, which she uses to actively hurt trans and queer people. new merch is not a necessity to enjoy the fandom, theres so many ways around that

Or just give them up because they’re poorly written, full of issues, and taken from myriad other, better works.

marauders fans pmo cause most of them have a superiority complex bc they like a seperate generation of the same fucking series 💔

it’s truly not superiority, it’s that these characters have so much room to change. we can use this loving young hyperfixation, without giving credence to the hatred of the originals

that, quite literally, is not how it works. anything that doesnt involve giving her money is fine. money is how she functions, not by some magical evil force of people simply liking her books
