this is like a personal theory but a lot of big time fans of big artists like taylor treat her like The Artist. they’re not listening to other country artists and may be passive engaged with her pop contemporaries but view them more as competition than peers and when you have that mindset she has to provide everything. there’s no room for actual queer artists or appreciating your local indie scene they might enjoy it’s just The Artist they have to present everything they wanna see
Taylor Swift has a lot of songs about falling for your best friend and having a hidden/forbidden romance that society doesn’t approve of. It’s very easy to read queer themes from those songs, but it is also incredibly obvious that there is a difference between hiding your relationship bc you’re queer and hiding your relationship because the paparazzi are going to tear you to shreds for dating another man after years of slutshaming you
You can project lesbian stuff into a lot of her songs. I know it’s not authorial intent, but I understand how people have decided that it is. Depending on the song, a lesbian reading works really well, but that’s either accidental or because the different situations can cause the same feelings
Like it’s really just that a large percentage of girls get into TS’s music at a young age because they feel seen by it and then they want to keep projecting onto her and her music even if their lives no longer look like Taylor’s + the fact that historically most lesbian artists are not mainstream enough for middle schoolers to know about
So it’s a fandom term that comes from the first ever fandom, the bible. Cannon is what scripture is considered to be 100% from god, or in modern fandom terms, stuff from the author that is meant to be true about the universe the story is set in. Head cannon is stuff like dante’s inferno, stuff not directly from god (or the author) but considered to be true by some people. Some people even use headcannon nowadays to mean stuff they think would be cool if true, but thats not widely accepted
