“lavender marriage” refers to a marriage for the sake of keeping one or both partners’ real sexual orientation concealed, not for financial convenience

That’s why it’s in quotes, we know it’s not quite a real lavender marriage (although neither of us are out to our families), but we call it that as a joke since that’s what it feels like
