misgendering is referring to someone in any way that doesn’t reflect their gender identity, degendering is removing gendered references (and in an intersectional lens can effect cis people of color). for ex. laverne cox uses she/her pronouns, if you referred to her using he/him pronouns that’s misgendering. if you referred to her using they/them pronouns that’s misgendering and more specifically degendering.

yeah i was trying to keep it simple lol. other ex. imane khelif? cis woman AFAB. faced international scrutiny and “investigation” because she won a boxing event at the olympics. if you look at the coverage of it, much of it is racist, transphobic, and perisexist. she was frequently degendered (in various ways) as a cis woman of color because of the nature of intersectional oppression.
