I had five different doctors ask me if I’m sure I’m couldnt be pregnant the other day, like they didn’t believe a twenty year old wouldn’t be having sex, dude, even if I wasn’t ace, my husband has a vagina, he ain’t knocking me up

They still have to ask, it’s part of any decent medical professionals standard practice

I had this happen to me at 16-17? And they laughed when I said I’m gay. Like they didn’t believe me and went on to tell me what they were going to say regardless of my answer. I was getting bc pills for my acne. I don’t feel like doctors get enough training on how to talk to different demographics and they should

ok but how about we talk abt how ace ppl are constantly disbelieved in medical contexts, like to the point doctors will write on ur chart that you are sexually active but tried to lie about it??? medical discrimination is real and it’s insane

Not necessarily, part of your training as a medical professional is to assume your patient is lying to you. I thought that was a little silly until I started working and discovered that patients often lie about all kinds of things for a variety of reasons

Sure. Does that mean suddenly that it isn’t a form of discrimination? Does it matter who the doctors are thinking about as liars? Do we think there might be an ongoing issue where certain people are more likely to be seen as lying by doctors? And how perhaps that could also turn into an excuse for why things like medical misogyny & racism persist, if doctors are allowed to feel as though their patients are lying about their symptoms?
