Okay there NEEDS to be nuance to this!! If the queer community is to gain any social validity and credit then it is through solidarity with cis straight people. Not allies, but accomplices who march with us and fight with us to defend human dignity

i wish more people understood the distinction between “this is a queer space” and “this is a queer community event” cause there’s a huge difference between going to a gay/lesbian bar as a straight person and acting like a tourist vs showing your support at a community event

like Yes i don’t think allies deserve like, five hundred thousand pats on the back for simply not being a piece of shit, however in our current political climate i am not going to complain about someone being there to show their support. one of my favorite queer orgs here is run by an ally (as far as i know!) whose daughter died shortly after coming out as a lesbian, and has since dedicated her life to helping queer youth. i think that’s beautiful.
