Whats your take on genderfluid actors playing trans characters? Genderfluid friend of mine is doing a short film where they play a trans woman. On the one hand they arent a trans woman. On the other they dont really identify as cis. So idk how i feel

I think unless there’s a qualified trans woman who’s being passed up, it’s fine if your friend is transitioning from male to a more feminine presentation. Like I wouldn’t want a trans man or transmasc gender fluid person to play a trans woman because there’s no shared experience in direction of transitioning if that makes sense

Im a trans woman btw. My friend has the best intentions and its not a demeaning role in anyway shape or form

Honestly I would take the wins we can get. In a picture perfect world a trans woman would play that role, but I’d rather have a trans individual play it than a cis woman

Its a small production so as far as i know no one is getting passed up for it. Theyre amab but they frequently possess feminine when feeling more like a woman. Though they dont intend on transitioning medically or socially

Yeah im not really upset about it. Theyre a good actor and will do the character justice and be respectful. Its just im unsure the exact line cause they arent cis but arent like binary trans either like i am
