Basically, I left a particular denomination bc there was a visiting speaker that went on a homophobic tirade and made me feel unwelcome. Been attending an affirming denomination for months, since, and it’s been incredibly healing. Priest of the previous church also reached out a few weeks back, but I didn’t respond b/c I didn’t want to re-open that wound.

Do you think he will ask you? Lots of times they won’t ask in person they’ll just be happy you’re back and try to be welcoming because they know those questions can drive ppl away more. Obviously this isn’t the case for every priests I’m jw if maybe they won’t ask

Friend invited me to a potluck tmr with a group from the previous church. The priest of the previous church will be there. I know it’s gonna be awkward as hell to try and explain why I left in the middle of a dinner in front of everyone. Also don’t wanna cause a scene. What do I do? I could text the priest now but that’s also hella awkward bc I didn’t respond for so long and now I’m only saying something the day bc I know I’ll see him.

It’s like I shouldn’t feel guilty for leaving bc I shouldn’t have to tolerate blatant bigotry. But it’s also on me for not responding sooner. And I don’t want that to delegitimize a very sobering I want to communicate to the priest.

Aside, I also know it’s gonna be awkward as hell to keep explaining to everyone I come across throughout the night why I left. I wasn’t out to anyone in the previous church. So if anyone has advice on how to approach those conversations, would love to hear as well. thank u for listening <3
