i would say talk about those topics instead. start those conversations, make them understand that you are NOT just friends. you are more than that and should be treated as such.

They may be a little aloof due to the factors in which you altered your frame in such a way that baffled them however your choices shouldn’t impact the manners of family or friendships. Shift the focus away from how does this impact my family to how can i cultivate a loving relationship while experiencing a cordial connection with them without that being the topic of discussion.
