this happened to me in the first couple years of undergrad, but they leveled out by grad school. people just generally rebel against whatever political environment they were raised in as soon as they turn 18.

it’s a hyperbole, it’s obviously not ALL, but a very significant portion. if someone went from identifying as a lesbian in high school to getting engaged to a man and now has bible verses in their profile, that’s how you know
