my grandfather is a veteran and isn't in the best health but he no longer has access to the VA, so yeah so much for caring about veterans

both my parents are veterans and have viciously hated him since he called fallen soldiers “suckers and losers”. it probably doesn’t help that he’s taking away safety nets to keep veterans from offing themselves and the govt shutdown is making current servicemembers work without pay along with other BS. my dad is furloughed since he moved to the public sector, which he did all because he wanted to serve this country and in return he gets told to eat shit. what an absolute joke.

hot take maybe but veterans aren't the enemy here. I'm sure a good handful of them are terrible people but mocking an entire group for getting taken advantage of by the government when they were fresh out of high school isn't helping anyone. if you want to take aim at someone, try the people who are actually in power.

most people i know joined because they were poor, had zero prospects, and were told they would get a guaranteed job and benefits like health insurance for their family. the military preys on the weak to exploit their suffering.
