i’m Black and transmasc and i have a genuine question: what’s the history of the word p-nk (replace with o) and why is it considered offensive? i’ve heard differing opinions
just google “ponk slur”. seems like a regional pronunciation of the word punk used primarily in black communities in the south and especially new orleans as a derogatory term for an effeminate or gay man

i know it’s directed towards gay men and i’ve seen a lot of gay men reclaim it for themselves which i think is awesome !! but i also see a lot who are uncomfortable with it im mainly curious about how the term came about

It’s basically AAVE in origin but it’s a derogatory term towards gay men

White queer detected, black ppl say that shit all the time and I've had cousins who use it (not toward me tho) and I've had to correct them

Yea I’m white, I also live in a very rural area with barely any queer people, so makes sense I haven’t heard it before

Potentially, but it’s nice to hear about it in case I ever hear it in the real world and wonder what it is
