I think people should stop calling strangers sir or ma’am.

It’s meant to be polite but it does get tricky that there’s not an appropriate gender neutral term for it

Some people just suck at clocking gender ngl. Like when that person went viral on TikTok for the “no one wants a waist over nine inches” thing where they synched their apron and it popped their tiddies out, ppl kept calling them a queen and she/her but to me it was obvioussss that they were nb even before I clicked on their profile to see they/them

Ngl being raised to call ppl sir or ma’am has helped me so much in life but it does get a bit tiresome

It just sucks because like what about this makes you think ma’am

Just nothing. There’s no diffrence in saying “what can I get for you ma’am,” and “what can I get for you”

I’m from the south and I actually get misgendered less there than I do in the north or west coast bc they immediately see me as masculine and think sir

If you NEED a title, you could use hun, dear, mate…

I’ve been in customer service for 6 years and usually just stick with “what can I get for you today”

I get sir a lot in my work uniform up north, but that’s just old men. The ma’am incident was in the south. I don’t know how to be southern masculine

Be dark skin black and AFAB and ppl in the south including other black ppl will instantly think “masc”

😔 I can’t do mens cuts because I’m closeted to my parents. I just feel like ma’am is a title for older women?? And I’m very young, alternative, visibly something.

Just come out dude. I know it’s probably the hardest thing you’ll ever have to say to someone but it’s so worth it. Even if they don’t accept you at least you know who your real supporters are/aren’t. That’s just my take tho

Oh I’ve come out. My mom found my Reddit when I was fifteen and a trans man. I’ve told her I’m nonbinary I’ve told her I use they them but somehow she just dosent aknowlege it at all. She says my vacation clothes are too masculine or “more masculine” than last years and dosent fucking think about why even though I’ve come out at least five to six times

tbh i do feel like there’s a difference. maybe it’s just my good ol midwestern politeness but i do generally think it’s considered more polite to use maam/sir, and even when im getting misgendered i appreciate the thought lol. i love and prefer when people just say dear or love or something like that though
