Found out that apparently 10% of San Fran are against gay people. This begs the question: why the fuck are yall homophobic while living in downtown gayville????

I live in Portland OR and in the neighborhood I’m dog sitting in, 6 doors down, has a giant trump flag. It really makes no sense why they choose to live here

Honestly, finding out gay people live in the south always baffles me too. Why are yall living where they want to hang us🫠

I stay in the south because I’ve met other queers who feared they were the only ones. Because there are sweet kids who know only goodness in people. Because every June the public libraries put up their pride displays and most people don’t bat an eye. Because there is shit that needs to change and if no one else will do it then I will.

They want to hang us everywhere. Most places are just too polite to say it.

To each their own. Once I was beat outside a bar just for the clothes I wore, I knew that place wasn’t for me and that I had to get out. Also, idk how much you’re going to change those areas. It’s been how long since slavery and they’re still openly racist. They’re incredibly slow to change.

I don’t want to invalidate your personal experiences but can you point to where you see they want to hang us everywhere? I mean there’s tons of bad places, but think of all the sanctuary cities too. Those places are way more accepting.

I’ve lived up north too, I was beat for being brown there. I agree it’s worse in the south but I will never give up on us. Doesn’t matter how much I change something, all that matters is that I tried and I’ll die knowing I did.

I can sure think of the cities, those few places that are too expensive to live for most of us, but I’d rather point to the vast area of the nation where confederate flags wave just half an hour outside of these sanctuary cities.

It’s kinda like how my family moved out of Mexico. Yeah, they could’ve stayed. But it’s comparatively safer in the states. Though we are met with racism still we are able to find community with those that accept us as well.

Oh no yeah, being brown is a whole different story. People have called me greasy and all kinds of other names. Ive been kicked, shoved, spit on and told I don’t belong here. I’ve just accepted that there will forever be racism towards me on that end though. That’s a global issue that likely won’t get solved in our lifetime.

Yeah that’ll likely persist til the end of humanity if we’re being realistic.

Not everyone can leave. For everyone who doesn’t have that choice and has to live in fear, I hope they see one person who can choose and has the ability to live out and openly and it brings them some comfort. I’m from the south and would frequently travel to a place that was much worse and meeting me was what gave my gf and my friend from there the courage to confront the possibility they may be queer and come out. My gf eventually moved, but my friend didn’t and that’s ok!

It’s because the only reason it’s a blue state is because of the city. If NYC was in NJ. Ny state would be a red state

When most of the people who live in your state live in one city that votes blue, yeah your states gonna be blue

i’m aware… but nyc is still ny?💀u can’t just cancel that out by saying “if this city was in another state” bc it’s not…

also this is assuming people DECIDED to live here. A lot of people in rural towns don’t move far/out of their town because it’s really expensive to move.

Well yeah that’s the case for most cities and states. The land doesn’t vote, the people do. They’re always bluer because they’re more diverse and people learn to live outside their own bubble.

okay i also live in upstate NY and i get it. over 8million people live in NYC and about 20million people live in the entire state. that’s almost half of the population. other counties with high populations also vote blue, like ulster, duchess, and albany. but still, if you take almost half the population, a major city that votes primarily blue, yes there is a huge chance that NYS as a whole would be a red state

Did u ever stop to think that maybe 1 wasn’t talking about the people who can’t leave but people who choose to move there? To each their own but I’ll never move to the south or a deep red state as a black queer person 😭

Has the south as a whole improved or have the city areas that are always more blue and progressive improved to your knowledge? Im genuinely curious.
