Subaru gets made fun of for its lesbian drivers, BUT theres a reason there’s so many. In the 90s, gay dollars were considered less than, ppl didn’t wanna sell cars to gay ppl, Subaru saw this untouched market and welcomed the community with open arms

IIRC they did a market test and found out that just for some unexplained reason they had a higher lesbian purchasing rate than any other company and decided to capitalize on it hard to big success

i always thought it was silly that “this particular demographic likes you!” was supposed to be some kind of insult, though

it’s because in the 70s-90s they were the second safest to volvo, who had a public image crisis from some questionable ad campaigns. women tend to prioritize safety higher than men.

Yeah, they had four big customer bases and then they did that market test that you’re talking about and found that they had a large lesbian customer base, but the reason why they had said customer base was because the other companies did not want to sell to members of the LGBT community

I didn’t know that was the reason why! Interesting. Would you be able to source where that info comes from? I was always under the impression the customer study had happened first
