The Old Testament is explicitly very proslavery and homophobic, and misogynistic… and racist. The thing people don’t understand about Christianity is that it’s theoretically an attempt to reconcile Jesus’s teachings with his father’s. This is… impossible. They’re contradictory, hence Gnosticism.

Religions aren’t about the actual things they claim to be— they’re about controlling a population’s values on a sociological scale and providing purpose and comfort on an individual scale. Much purpose and comfort is found in blaming a deviant population for society’s ills.

Many do, many don’t. The **multitude** of various sects can’t even agree with each other about what is metaphorical, what’s literal, what’s real, what’s allegory, none of it. Why should the rest of us have to deal with that?

So, that’s not how Christianity works on… so many levels. But that’s not the point. The point is that religions are made and modified to suit whatever the people doing the making and modifying want. Christianity, in that context, is quite potent because you can find a verse to support literally anything, since the Bible was written over the course of about 2000 years by dozens or hundreds of authors over multiple languages.
