agree 100% but then again i've recently come to thw realization that a lot of radical leftists are somehow both well aware of how fucked thw world is and under the impression that we'll fight all these battles at once and just. have everytthing at the same time when in reality, we can't have it all. i think that people are gonna be dicks and if they're willing to contribute to just a little bit of that, ostracizing them Will Not Do Anything and will in fact just make them more bitter assholes
using AI for everything directly effects black and brown communities who live next to the plants that sustain the AI. the plants are also intentionally placed in these communities because the state doesn’t care about them. it’s environmental racism and necropolitics - who gets slated for death
this is crazy honestly, it has been so public for so long that mcdonald’s supports israel. genuinely if you don’t know already it’s because you haven’t taken the effort to educate yourself, so you probably don’t care that much anyway. i know you meant this in good faith, and i appreciate you asking, but the lack of effort you have put in to educating yourself is really unfortunate
literally like. i can cut people a bit of slack for teva bc you don’t really get to pick and choose what manufacturer your pharmacist fills your prescription for, but it’s still a specific company listed as a “pressure target.” this statement isnt meant to exculpate mcdonald’s, but it also isn’t a priority
where did i say don’t boycott it? i just said it’s a secondary concern. there are companies listed as priority by the BDS and mcdonald’s isn’t one. a boycott is more effective when it is more precise and targeted than just “boycott everything” because there is a level of fatigue the average person will develop. some companies are worse than others and need to be treated as such
also want to follow up on this, you follow this list like it’s gospel thinking you’re helping palestinians, but god forbid someone say you should boycott a company that they deem a “secondary concern”(still a concern). interesting imo. unrelated, how much money have you donated to palestinian aid? how many protests have you been to?
1. i am living paycheck to paycheck rn but go off on how monetary support is directly tied to whether or not you care abt things 2. i live in an area that is very quick to arrest protestors and i want you to think for just a second about what happens to trans women in men’s jail, even if its very short term 3. i don’t remember the last time i got mcdonald’s but ok lmao. what other places are you avoiding? what gas stations do you use? who made your computer? there are plenty of places to avoid
1. so am i, i am WELL below the poverty line and still donate $5 when i can 2. even if you can’t be at the front lines you can go to a protest, i am also trans and i go to protests as often as i can, it is VERY unlikely you get arrested at a protest if you stay away from the front lines, the media exaggerates it to keep us off the streets 3. i try everyday to avoid brands that support israel, and i don’t own a car or computer, but good try!
No especially coming after you for “not being educated” my average screen time is 2-3 hours bc of school & work. I haven’t been active on social media in awhile, & when I am I’m not on there long enough to really see anything besides updates from friends & how their life is. I finally have a few minutes, but I stay busy & mentally drained which is causing another depressive episode
So coming after you for asking a question, not knowing what you may be going through is uncalled for. Also asking the question is making an effort to educate yourself, I myself didn’t know about the McDonald’s boycott, but now I know bc of your question, so when I do get spare time, I can research.
lmfao brother the effect that’s having on energy and water usage is marginal at best. and i don’t eat meat but nice try. genuinely it’s not that hard to look things up yourself, and you’ll get a more well rounded answer if you do your own digging. chatgpt is often wrong or misleading, you’re hurting the planet and yourself. also relying on it can reduce your brain activity. literally.
Everyone in the first world is hurting the planet. The environmental case against AI is weaker than the environmental case against cars and meat. Using Yik Yak takes energy too. Chatgpt is good for pulling hard to find information and to get a quick overview of the details. Yes, it is good to follow up with your own review, and to challenge and question what AI says. But I would say AI can be a good starting point.
I tried it instead of Citation Machine just last night. Just one APA citation. It hallucinated 50% of it. Made up fake authors and everything. You are refusing to acknowledge the part you play in destroying our planet by relying on AI and are attempting (and failing) to use half-assed logical fallacies to lash out at those of us calling you out on your shitty behavior when discussing the topic.
