Kinda sad but I feel like the only way LGBTQ+ will gain acceptance in the USA is if they are an economic benefit. Just look at how the furries are treated in Pittsburgh once business decided to welcome them and not push them away. It brought peace

Thats part of why I think “corporate pride” was important. Like, it was 100% performative and insincere but it also helped with “normalizing” queer identities and funding pride events.

i feel like that’s exactly why “corporate pride” isn’t important. the goal should not be being palatable because we make money for businesses

acceptance brought by assimilation is not true acceptance

Debatable. I will agree that acceptance brought by assimilation is usually weaker than unconditional acceptance, though it’s also true the two aren’t mutually exclusive. You can also have an end goal and have multiple steps to reach that goal. You don’t have to only accept a solution that instantly jumps you to the end goal. The first step could at least be us becoming a group with enough influence that businesses are willing to cater to us.

i guess?? i just feel like we have reached that point, like corporate pride has previously been a really big thing, and that evidently didn’t do shit. people that are okay w queer people when they “don’t shove it in their face” are not actually okay with queer people and i think instead of focusing on becoming palatable to conservatives we should instead focus energy into building community with people that will accept us as we are, and then build that community through personal connections
