Can you refuse to talk to them? I feel like that would look suspicious. I’m not pro cop or anti cop but idk if they should all be lumped together as bad

Tbf, the cop that comes by the Dunkin I work at is a nice and funny fella. he also one time caught me drifting in circles at Walmart during the winter time, he wasn't upset. He just explained that he was there to make sure I wasn't going to kms.

Why? Cops are some of the best people I know. I love talking to them

Any lawyer worth their weight in salt would tell you not to talk to the police unless you’re being pulled over, with the exception of very generic pleasantries and asking if you’re free to go/being detained. If you are being pulled over, have your identification ready and respectfully answer any prying questions with “sorry, I don’t speak with police”.

My only alteration would be that you should say “I don’t speak without my lawyer present” because that’s a constitutionally protected right and implies the same meaning, but I think explicitly saying you don’t talk to cops could piss them off (which isn’t okay and isn’t something we should have to worry about but it’s the world we live in that angry cops create dead civilians)

Anything you say can and will be used against you. Anything you say can and will be used against someone else, as well. From what’s going on in the country right now, I’d say this chalking is either a warning/reminder to protesters or a push to passively interfere with ICE operations

That makes sense! Sorry if that was a dumb question lol. I’d be kind of nervous and feel compelled to answer. But no cop should make someone feel that way. I hate how corrupt it is because being an officer makes them responsible for keeping us safe. Even the troops being deployed in LA rn. Hopefully there’s some guys out there that don’t agree with what they are doing

Hey you’re all good! They spend all their careers compelling people to answer. It’s like… most of their job. I just wanted to remind you that police officers aren’t meant to protect people, they’re meant to protect property. The establishment of police organizations were originally meant to track down runaway slaves and in the modern day the national guard has been called in explicitly to defend federal property (but you know there’s more going on). This is police doing what they’re meant for.

Not a dumb question at all!! It’s intentional that you weren’t aware of the answer; when people feel like they’ll get in trouble if they don’t comply, it’s a lot easier to subjugate them. We largely aren’t taught our rights because the people claiming to protect us view them as a hinderance. It wasn’t until 1966 that the courts decided cops HAVE to inform you of your rights when you get arrested

And, PS, it’s only when you’re being arrested and interrogated that they have to tell you your rights. Informal detention and questioning is exempt from the disclaimer, but these rights are ALWAYS supported. While we’re on the topic, be aware that cops are allowed to lie! “Your friend already told us everything, if your story doesn’t match it’ll be worse for you” meanwhile they don’t even have your friend detained yet 😭

If you haven’t committed a crime you shouldn’t have anything to worry about

You SHOULDN’T have anything to worry about but, like I said, the world we live in means that angry cops create dead civilians. Technically, you should be able to tell a cop to fuck off and be perfectly fine, but I certainly don’t recommend doing so. Also, some people are black, or women, or immigrants, or queer, or poor, or ugly, or anything else that can make someone hate you through no fault of your own.

Angry people create dead people, it’s human nature . It has nothing to do with weather or not someone is a cop

Please go to therapy!! That’s not human nature!! For people who kill people, though, cops are the most successful because they’re heavily protected and they’re aware of that and capitalize on it.

1. The queer pedophile thing has been disproven a million times 2. The issue is that cops protect each other. Same thing with the church. If my friend told me he killed someone, I’d immediately report him to the authorities and testify against him. Cops have developed a culture of sweeping it under the rug, ignoring it, and even actively protecting it. It’s the same as when a frat brother rapes someone on campus - if the frat doesn’t kick him out, they’re all complicit

To be clear, ACAB is about the profession and the culture associated. There can be good people who happen to be cops the same way there can be good people who happen to be priests. But you also should try to be cognizant that he’s nice **to you**. A lot of people with positive experiences with police don’t consider the additional circumstances that other people have to. I personally have several great experiences with cops, but I can recognize that that is true while also recognizing ACAB

This isn't necessary->[A] CAB. I think there is a large amount of power hungry cops as it is easy to overpower people when you have weapons as well as armor. But I think [A]ll cops are not bad. Some are just nice humans that decided to get a job.

1. It wasn’t disproven. What was disproven was the far rights exaggeration of how bad it is. 2. Most people protect the others in their social group. It’s not something unique to any particular community.

There are certainly some bad cops, but most are good people. Though it’s kinda just that way with all people no matter the profession. Some are bad but generally most are good.

I googled it and it said yes. And ofc you should talk to police. Some police are bad but that doesn’t mean they all are. You shouldn’t put them all under one umbrella and assume they are bad. Are you gonna just not call 911 when there is an emergency? “Nope can’t call bc all cops are bad so imma just not get help”
