Hey fellow trans guys who have started on HRT, I have a phobia of needles but would push through it to transition but I recently learned about the testosterone gel
Which is better?
if you're uncomfortable with needles I think the gel is gonna be better for you regardless

i believe there are some forms of t shot that you do less often, or that can be done by your provider if that would help. it also depends on how severe your phobia is because having a strong motivation to reduce it through exposure could make medical care in general better for you

You could also post this in the “Trans Talk” group if you haven’t already

I think shots potentially work faster from what I hear, and are cheaper without insurance, but if you’re afraid of needles there’s not really much benefit vs the fear you’d experience weekly

You could always look into slow acting T, so basically a stronger dose that disperses through your body slower so you’d go longer in between shots

gel is more like natural testosterone levels anyway cuz it cycles daily instead of weekly

in full seriousness, my doctor told me about a pellet that a provider injects into your posterior and it released hormones for about three months. Maybe see if your insurance covers that? I do the shot and even i get moments of anxiety every time even though im cool with needles

There’s also auto injectors, but they’re very expensive.

^this. i started off with tgel my first month cos i didn’t think it was in the right headspace to use a needle every month but tgel ended up being like $100 a month so i immediately switched to injection after that cos it was much cheaper.

i got a pack of like 50 syringes, drawing needles, and injection needles for $30 and then a bottle or bottles of T for me is usually like $10 depending on insurance and that lasts at least 9-10 weeks
