this is a genuine question: as a wlw i’m genuinely so curious as to why i see so many people on dating apps in like clown cosplay? or makeup? like i’m not trying to say it looks bad bc it eats but it’s in the style of typical clowns? i’m so intrigued

I think it’s a pretty popular style in a lot of alt communities, I think I started seeing it around 2022/2023.

yeah, “clowncore” aesthetic was gaining traction in alt circles on tumblr & tiktok some time around 2021 i always figured it was inspired by a blend of popular media from the late 2010s (like It, or Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad), reaction to the 2016 “evil clown sightings” thing, and proximity to juggalo subculture. also probably relevant that the actual band by the name Clown Core broke their hiatus in 2020
