I’m convinced that outrage and cancel culture will be the downfall of queer people in the U.S. largely because so many would rather find something to be outraged at than have an intellectual dialogue. It’s regressive and it’s ruining us. Period.

You say something so controversial and yet so brave. Anyone slightly less than “Tumblr left” have to be silent about their views or be called a Nazi Anyone slightly religious has to completely be silent about their religion or they’re forcing it down everyone’s throat Anyone who complains about actual issues in the community is actually just dealing with internalized homophobia Anyone who uses slightly incorrect terminology accidentally is automatically doing so maliciously, not ignorantly.

I still have hope that real life communities are better than this but as far as online queer communities go 100%. And you can’t even mention this stuff without people immediately assuming you’re only upset at cancel culture because you’re bigoted or something

My problem with it is people hear buzzwords and do the highest level of mental gymnastics to derail a conversation and make it about them or something it isn’t. It’s selfish and regressive and stupid. And half the time the “outrage” is the biggest fucking stretch ever.

I really wish more people would actually just sit down and fully read what someone says instead of finding like one or two out of context words/terms and making it into an issue. Like I thought yikyak was mostly college students but I must be wrong because idk how some of these people are getting through college with such low reading comprehension

It is mostly college students we are just regressing cognitively into immature selfish tendencies instead of having meaningful dialogue. Like talking to 12 year olds who can only parrot talking points.

Yup. I’m very grateful I have queer friends who are actually down to earth and can have intelligent conversations with me but I do wish there were better online environments

What’s "tumblr left"?

Y'all just as an FYI this app is merged with sidechat which does allow kids, so some of the people you see around are genuinely 12 years old. Unfortunately "reading level" and "age" on here still aren't as highly correlated as I'd like...

“Tumblr left” is a term I made to describe the political landscape of Tumblr. It is much further to the left than the average person on the left. It also refers to the stereotype of Tumblr being very liberal. It isn’t a perfect term, but it works.

Can’t tell if people are downvoting you because you’re wrong or because you’re right haha but that would make sense
