I don’t quite understand why it’s generally considered okay for bisexuals to call themselves gay but not okay for bisexual women to call themselves lesbian /gen

gay is sometimes used more broadly in general than lesbian is

Gay is used as a broad term in moments like a bi man calling himself gay, or a lesbian woman being called a gay woman

I think both can create confusion in particular circumstances, but I think most of the times I’ve heard bi people say something about being gay, they’re using gay in the same way as queer

Is a bisexual woman still gay, still a gay woman?

So she’s a gay woman but not a lesbian?

Lesbian is 90% of the time used for people who exclusively date women. Idk if a bi girl calls herself that, but I’d be worried if she ends up dating a man after. Because men already see lesbian’s sexuality as open to change. (There’s a whole porn category about d¥k3 conversion) and someone calling herself a lesbian then getting with a man gives “you can make lesbians like d1ck” vibes

Gotchu, makes sense. I wish that bisexuality had more sub labels, especially labels entwined with gender identity the way lesbianism does. I’d def consider myself a masc if it weren’t for the darn attraction to men 😭

A big part of it is the violence against lesbians. I’m a masc lesbian and men literally view me as someone to fix or change and I’m smaller so it has gotten violent before and has resulted in my corrective r@pe
