if you're in the lgbtq community you're queer! some people use it as an umbrella term and some use it bc they feel it is the label that best fits them (for example I know someone who is def not straight but doesn't fit neatly into any other label so that's what they use) personally I tell people I'm queer when talking about my sexuality bc explaining what aroace means is too much work sometimes lol

If you’re not straight or cis you’re queer. It can mean different things to different people but it is an umbrella term for all people in the lgbtq+ community.

Oh, I thought there was some sort of difference between being gay and being queer, like being gay is just sexuality and being queer is partaking in lgbtq culture or something like that

Queer is one of those terms that means a lot of different things to a lot of different people. I’m sure some people like to think of it as what you said, but I think most people agree that queer generally means “not cis/het”
