What makes this worse is that it had been happening for years and the police DID NOTHING TO STOP IT

Meanwhile other trans folks in my city are asking how to stay safe on our public transit system. And this is one of the “safer” place to move to if you’re trans. We still have work to do.

no they’re right, we don’t necessarily need pride month. we NEED equality and acceptance. we NEED to not fear for our lives. we NEED to feel safe in our own goddamn country. but sure, we’ll settle for a month of celebration that is deemed controversial anyways.

^^ it just proves that he and his husband were facing huge obstacles in life and despite that, they made it work.

A man in Detroit I live in Detroit tried to kill me twice in December and January and I see him on the street regularly. Stupid pig fuck cops I hate them. My advice to every queer person is arm yourselves

Solution: arm yourself legally

And then go to prison for the rest of your life for being charged with attempted murder? Nah.

Call a lawyer after anything happens. Would you rather go to trial for self defense or would you rather be killed for being gay?

Trans people have more at risk. People don’t care about us. If security saw you with a gun on our transit, you would be banned and cops would be called on you. They absolutely don’t care about trans lives

I’m trans and disabled. I personally would not take that chance. It would put my safety even more at risk.

#3 blocked me wtf You should be concealing with a legal permit any firearm, and there are a variety of traditional to less lethal means to defend oneself within the confines of the law. Conversely, if someone tried to violently assault you to the extent you had to defend yourself, wouldn’t you hope someone calls the police? I hate cops, but after January I had to call em. Useless fucks, but what am I to do Anyways #3 I live in Detroit. It’s not great for queer people here

Queer people will always be controversial to folks, even if we are just living our lives. Might as well find a little bit of joy in it, especially for us trans folks that have to deal more vocally these days debating our existence and healthcare 24/7. A lot of times Pride is a safer space for people living in conservative areas that need an escape

i get that, but there is a point where we can’t just keep “settling”. i love pride, it’s a lovely event full of support but i don’t want to feel that support only during a certain month/event. idk we are obvi on the same side but this shit is just disheartening, it’s exhausting to hear about hate crimes after hate crimes and there is nothing being done about it
