It wouldn’t surprise me if most middle Americans felt this way about trans people. I’m not saying it’s cool that they don’t accept trans people at their word, but I can tell you that it is a huge improvement from what their attitudes were when I was growing up.

I mean people deserve the right to only tolerate you. Not everyone has to accept you. I think it’s a happy medium. I tolerate Trump supporters in the way that I don’t go out of my way to harass them, but I don’t accept them. Same goes here.

The world is filled with homophobes who silently disagree with gay rights but live among gay people. They don’t actively seek us out to harm us, just differing opinions. I can respect that. Not everyone will accept you. It’s a fact of life. You can’t force people into accepting you either. It’s best to just cut your losses and focus on those who do.

I actually agree with you. Of course I wouldn’t want any sort of relationship with that person, but if they were my cashier at the grocery store or something, I’d prefer not getting misgendered and deadnamed. People should be honest about their bigotry but if I’m never going to see that person again, I’m happy to let them keep it on the downlow and not trigger my dysphoria.

exactlyyyy like you rlly think I WANT to have gender dysphoria?? do you think i actively choose to make my life harder just because? no. if i could be comfortable in my sex at birth, life would be much smoother but i cant change my brain chemistry. on the other hand, trump supporters CHOOSE to praise a felon, and CHOOSE to ruin other peoples lives just for existing as they are meant to be.
