had to cancel my plans to see family for christmas bc as a visibly trans person i just don’t feel comfortable traveling alone. i’ve had close calls before with tsa and i can’t risk it again. this country fucking sucks

If you’re okay with sharing, what sort of close calls with tsa did you have? I’m a trans person who often travels alone and I’m planning to start hormones soon, so I’m pretty worried about it

It doesn’t sound like a lot but in the moment it’s really uncomfortable and scary, lol. I’ve been patted down very aggressively, it takes longer to go through checks because my gender marker doesn’t match my appearance, and i travel alone so any escalation will be entirely mine to deal with and i would have nobody to witness or support me, if that makes sense

my biggest issue is with my gender marker - i changed it to M but i still look very feminine and i dress that way normally, so if I had kept it as F I could reasonably get away with just looking like a girl with a bad hairline and mustache. But having an M marker makes it a lot more obvious I think, so that causes me a lot of anxiety
