Why single out Christianity and the Cross and not add other Religious symbols that also stand for repression of LGBTQ individuals?

No you’re not, you’re being harmed by individuals who claim to be Christian. Christianity is an inanimate object, it is a religion, as long as you live in a country or a place which has a separation of religion and state which is most of the western world, you are not harmed by Christianity, you are harmed by individuals who claim to use Christianity or any religion for that matter to further repressive ideology. Alas I am on a online forum and I doubt anyone here really can distinguish that

They’re not currently working their way into our government to try and eradicate us. They’re problematic on their own but christianity is the biggest issue for most of us.

Neither Islam nor Judaism are currently being weaponized against us en masse in America, nor have they historically been weaponized against us en masse in America. Christianity, however, is being and has been doing so, hence the very reasonable hostility

Towards Christianity or towards politicians? Mind I remind you Christianity is the same faith whose religion teaches its adherents to “turn the other cheek” and to “treat one as you would like to be treated?

What do you mean towards Christianity or towards politicians? And no, I’m not saying Christianity is evil, I’m saying that in America, of the three Abrahamic religions, it has been weaponized against queer people the most. Any religion has the power to do immense good, including Christianity. Unfortunately, it can also be weaponized to do immense harm, including Christianity

Oh, I just realized you were asking if the hostility is aimed towards Christianity or politicians. It’s generally aimed at both. You have to understand that if someone was hurt by people who hurt them because of the same religion, they’re usually going to be bitter towards that religion

Yes I understand this, I also think it is a bit pathological and not entirely rational to assign blame to a religion, especially if one doesn’t have a good understanding of it. Just because Christianity is the status quo of the west and of the United States doesn’t give it reason to be assigned blame for the actions of individuals who bastardize it to further individualistic ideology and goals. It’s an unpopular opinion I am aware but we live in a society that has deemed the figures;

And institutions that seem to be the ones in power are susceptible to any and all criticism even if not entirely accurate or appropriate. If Christianity wasn’t the cultural status quo none of you would be having these conversations. This is as if someone let’s say of Korean descent was homophobic or transphobic or hostile towards you, I doubt ANYONE here and I mean ANYONE would blame their Korean-ness on their homophobia, you’d just call them a bigot. Christianity is not harming you, PEOPLE are

Dude. Yes there are people who use Christianity as a front to justify their bigotry, but there are also plenty of people who genuinely believe their bigotry is right and just. They genuinely think they’re doing right by the lord. No matter how willfully ignorant you are, you cannot disentangle Christianity from a huge amount of the bigotry in America, particularly the bigotry towards queer people. Yes, people are the ones doing harm, but they’re doing harm BECAUSE of their beliefs in-

Yeah but I bet if it was a hand with a crescent and a star everyone would be all “it’s islamophobic” even though much of the Christian doctrine and Islamic doctrine is the same regarding homosexuality. I think it’s fine to be against individuals but against a whole religion seems a little performative.

There. Is. No. Systemic. Oppression. Coming from Islam in America. Therefore, if it were a star and crescent or other Islamic imagery, it would be Islamophobic because Muslims don’t do the shit Christians in power do in America and considering how discriminated against Muslims are here, the most likely reason would be Islamophobia. Nothing exists in a vacuum jfc

And I think I’m pretty clear but just in case, I’m not talking about ALL Muslims in the whole world, I’m talking about the ones in America. There are countries where Islam is the dominant religion and among those are countries where discrimination against queer people is cruel and plentiful. We’re not talking about them though, we’re talking about American queer people and their issues with American Christians and American bigotry

Does everything have to be localized to America? What about same sex couples that are scared to death of being seen in public in countries where homosexuality is punishable by death. Many of those countries use their religious texts to justify their laws. Do you think all Iranians are responsible for the Islamic laws in Iran the way you’re claiming all of Christianity is responsible for the behavior of some Christians in the US?

And no, as I said, yes individuals are responsible for the harm done, but they are doing it because of their beliefs in Christianity. Not all Christians are bad, but MANY queer people have been directly and indirectly harmed by Christians who weaponize their religion against us, so fucking pardon me for being cautious of Christians by default

Clearly everyone here pictures the Deep South Bible Belt evangelical Christianity when we say Christianity. I’m curious why no one pictures the Episcopalian branch of Christianity that has literal women and gay men as priests and bishops and has dominated New England Christianity since Americas founding. It’s the same religion is it not?

Either you’re genuinely not understanding the thing I’m saying over and over and over or you’re rage baiting. I’ll say this one more time and then I’m not responding. Yes, it’s individuals who do the harm. Yes, Christianity is not inherently evil nor is it inherently good. However, Christianity has systemically been used to oppress many groups in America, in particular queer people. Therefore, we are perfectly within our rights to be cautious of and dislike Christians because they believe-
