the whole thing with “trans women can’t be in women’s bathrooms!!” and forcing them to go in the men’s is just setting people up for failure. why isn’t the option of a women’s bathroom, a men’s bathroom, and a gender neutral bathroom normalized yet😭

If I was in charge of laws for new construction, I would require that all new construction building have their bathrooms be single person bathrooms. No more big multi stall gendered bathrooms. Sure the single person bathrooms use a little more space but it solves so many problems it’s worth it to me. No worries about trans people in bathrooms, parents with different gender kids, disabled people with support people, etc.

This! Or if capacity is the issue we could keep the big multi stall bathrooms but make them gender neutral with stalls that are fully enclosed/reach the floor.

Ehhh that still has too many problems bc even with more private stalls, there is still the shared space of the restroom outside the stall where incidents can occur. It’s just a regular restroom with taller stalls. You’re removing the social barrier of gender but not really providing any extra safety, nothing to stop a man from following someone into this hypothetical restroom and enacting the violence he could enact in any other restroom

But that could easily happen in a single stall restroom too? What I’m saying is each stall is like its own little room, so closer to a bunch of single stall restrooms all lined up, than too a regular gendered restroom with stalls

Omigosh, that would be so cool! I love single person restrooms! But also, as a cis lady, I never understood why folks even separate restroom by gender/sex anyways…we’re all just doing business. A sign isn’t going to stop assault, sadly. Those guys that want to do it generally aren’t the sign-obeying type. :(
