Many medical conditions are much more common for queer people, but the link between transness and many health conditions isn’t well researched. POTS, EDS, and general hypermobility spectrum disorders tend to be much more common in trans people. There are probably more, but those are the first that come to mind. So you’re seeing trans/nb people use mobility aids because they’re more likely to need mobility aids, and nobody really knows why unfortunately
For me I think once you’re already hated and ostracised by society it’s easier to do other things that will make you ostracised. Probably why there’s a lot of alt trans people too. Trans people are hated so it’s not like it’ll get worse when you’re visibly disabled. Also I think that sometimes a cane is easier than finding the underlying problem. I used a cane for a bit because I had persistent ankle pain. Well turns out that’s what happens when you don’t wear orthotics and ur supposed to
Being Queer and being Disabled often have overlap. We don’t have time to pretend to be someone we’re not or push through other people’s expectations for us. We learn to take care of and accommodate ourselves. That, and COVID hit a LOT of people very hard. It’s disabled many of us in many ways.
