🤨 my sex is so changed i had to convince my insurance provider for an unreasonable amount of time that yes, I do in fact need an IUD and no, I do not intend to shove it up my dick lmao (second part unserious but they did NOT believe me for a hot minute)

This problem is why I’m still really apprehensive about updating my sex on my documents. My passport has an X marker and the social security office says I’m female. I refuse to be denied coverage for birth control and abortion services.

Your sex change operation gave you a uterus?

I’m not agreeing with OP, but if you transitioned from female to male and still need an IUD doesn’t that mean that your sex wasn’t fully changed??

Other way around, OP has a penis and insurance thinks they no longer need an IUD for the uterus

I’d like to point out that this isn’t actually a dumb question to ask if you’re unfamiliar with transgender healthcare. Uterus transplants haven’t been attempted on transgender women before, but I anticipate seeing that kind of experimentation in the distant future. I believe that my great-grandbabies’ friends will have access to surgeries we’ll never be able to get.

Yes and no. A “sex change” operation for people AFAB constructs a penis from donor skin on top of where a clitoris would be. Some trans men elect for a full hysterectomy, but some choose to keep the vagina and uterus functional or partially functional. This is due to a plethora of medical and financial circumstances. AFAB bottom surgery is a lot more complicated than AMAB bottom surgery.

people thought heart transplants wouldn’t work out (originally it had an extremely high mortality rate) but they managed to make it feasible, I don’t see why uteruses would be impossible

sex isnt binary, you can still change your sex to be more/less (fe)male :) I myself am agender & my sex has changed through medical care to a more in-the-middle sex

Yeah I’m also a trans man (who’s post-op a couple of surgeries) so I’m aware of all of the intricacies of trans male bottom surgery, I just felt like it wasn’t a great argument when rebutting someone who doesn’t think sex can be changed. I feel like, to someone of that opinion, it would be interpreted as “insurance may THINK I changed my sex, but ACTUALLY I still have the parts of my biological sex”
