I’m Arab student who train at engineering company in Houston. However, I noticed some habits here with my colleagues that they go bring food together and doesn’t give a shit about some of us. Is that normal here? Because as an Arab we invite each one.

I can order my food without asking anyone, and it won’t be rude, right?

yeah a lot of workplaces can be very cliquey but it also just isn't the norm here so they may be afraid of like overstepping their bounds or something like that

as rude as it feels, it is pretty standard here. a lot of places - especially larger companies - really don’t place any emphasis on team bonding outside of work. they might do an event every now and then for everyone, but there’s really not any focus on coworkers being anything but professional to each other. so usually, people will just go eat with those they consider closer friends instead. it’s rarely done out of malice or distain for coworkers, we just have a weird work culture here.

Ah gotcha.m guys.Yeah honestly I’m not too worried about it – I get that everyone has their own way of doing things here. Back home it’s just different, that’s why I was curious. No big deal though.

I know people here have a different vibe and that’s cool. Where I’m from it’s just a little different, so I was wondering. But yeah, no worries at all.
