so masc/fem is literally just about presentation, whereas femme + butch emphasize role and behavior. this discourse usually is more focused on masc vs butch tbh. spend some time in lesbian spaces/read lesbian history and you can get a feel for the difference.

So from my understanding (I’m a lesbian but I’m also dumb) fem is literally just the short version of feminine that’s how you present yourself and femme is more of a political identity bc of the relationship between fems and mascs/butches/studs in the past where fems needed to defend and protect more masc presenting wlws bc of the hatred they were experiencing
