When you hear someone say they are political, what do you think of? /g I used to think of myself as "not very political" because of where I grew up. It turned out that I am generally considered EXTREMELY political, but my community defined politicization differently & in a way that excluded me. So I'd genuinely be curious about what being political or not means to you!
I mean I generally closer to left leaning and try to support with causes I understand but if possible I do try to avoid political topics for mental health reasons. I don’t feel like because I happen to like women that responsibly should be put on me, people have their roles that suit them and not everyone is suited to be in political discussions,
When you say you avoid political topics, do you mean you avoid the news? The "responsibility" to be political is always a super interesting idea to me. Although (imo) nobody technically has the responsibility to be political, the reality is that nobody else will fight for your rights and well-being if you (or people like you) don't (I like chapter 1 of Freire's "pedagogy of the oppressed" for more on that). And there's lots of ways to help your community that might not feel as political for you!
I didn’t say I don’t care about politics if you want right you have to fight for them but damn I do avoid the news cause ik I cannot handle it at a certain point I want my career in politics but unfortunately that would put me. In a depression and a lot of anger at ppl who genuinely don’t deserve it, it’s not for me and I don’t think I have to because I’m not straight especially if it does more harm for myself
