I think that generally speaking it’s wonderful that you’re conscious of it but because you are so conscious of it I’d be surprised if you became the problem. While the system is an issue we need people within the system who know what we actually need. If you’re interested in doing it I’d say go for it but think carefully before paying for more schooling ofc.
identity and my community? i absolutely have no plans on being a cop but more of an advocate for our youth, especially queer youth. but it has me second guessing because of the deliberate ties with our legal system and cops. this has been eating away at me and i just wanted some personal opinions.
i live in a very small town in the south and this university has very limited options, mainly centered around business and biology because that’s where they receive funding. i know it sounds pretty wacko but that is just how it is ran. this is also the only liberal college near me which is why i really can’t go anywhere else. if it helps, the goal is cps or something similar in terms of missing and exploited children services. i definitely understand where you’re coming from though.
there is no specific degree that is soley based on nonprofit but now that you have brought it to my attention there are a lot of internships and things of that nature that are common where i am at. i think you’re definitely right about finding it worse because this has been eating me alive. hoping i can land something else or just continue on with just my associates. thank you for the reply, i appreciate the input while i think things over!
Ofc dawg, i initially studied polisci before realizing how much i really really dont want to support the political system. I lucked out at my university with our planning program which is primarily leftist/anarchist and it set me up rlly well for a job im trying to get doing parent/child mediation. Its important to know the structures but more important to not become subsumed by their logics
