Reminder that straight women are not always the great allies they claim to be. They jump at the opportunity to show us what they’re really thinking. Like 4K+ likes? Okay, cool.

are we sure this isn’t a gay person behind the screen?

Reminder that straight women aren’t a monolith. Like, this post stinks of misogyny, it’s not just me, right?

I checked their page before jumping to conclusions in hope. It’s a woman.

I don’t remember saying they were. We can agree that when someone says “men” as a general statement we’re not referring to all men. But when I say “straight women” clearly referring to women who use homophobic slurs as the context shows, suddenly, it’s an issue. Obviously I’m not talking about all women.

i think it’s kinda the way you immediately jumped to “ew straight women” without much evidence. and it could probably just be a miscommunication, but it’s also the way you kept repeating that it was a woman like that’s a bad thing “i checked her page. it was a woman.”

Yeah so, no. That’s bullshit and you know it. When you say “straight women” you are not “clearly referring to women who use homophobic slurs.” If you were, you would say “homophobic women” or something like that.

And it’s also worth pointing out that you did a “not all men.” Completely unprompted, I might add.

How is it not a bad thing for a woman to be homophobic wtf. Of course it’s a bad thing when a woman is homophobic? What are you even arguing right now?

it was that you kept enunciating that she was a WOMAN. you could have just made this statement about homophobic people, but instead you kept targeting it at women.

I think the context makes it pretty obvious what I meant but okay. The reason I didn’t outright say “homophobic women” is because these same women will swear that they’re our allies when these are the things they comment on our post.

Because straight women are the ones who consistently claim to be our allies but post shit like this. Homophobic men don’t pretend to like us but be homophobic in secret like this genre or woman does.

genuinely how can you claim you aren’t misogynistic after saying that. please read what you just said again but slowly. nobody is defending homophobia, but you keep pushing down straight women like they’re at fault for all your problems.

Then just say “fake allies.” “Women” is a completely unnecessary qualifier in this context.

Um. Yeah, some men act like this too. In fact, a ton of men act like this, if you consider how they treat lesbians.

are you joking??? men can be just as homophobic as women. what you basically just said was “women are fake” and here you are claiming you aren’t sexist

Anonymous replying to -> #2 9h

Because this is an issue I specifically see with straight women. Men are hardly ever “fake allies.” They’re either cool with us or straight up homophobic. Women are the ones who will pretend to be chill with us and benefit from gay culture like our bars but then post this shit online and make us the butt of the joke.

so it’s only homophobia when it’s straight women hating on gay men? all this person did was provide an example of how not all homophobia comes from straight women and you rejected it because it didn’t fit your argument

I don’t remember claiming that men can’t be homophobic what the fuck? You’re genuinely putting words in my mouth holy shit. Men can be more homophobic than women but that’s not at all what I was arguing. I was saying that a lot of straight women especially now pretend to be cool with gay people because they like our culture but then think they can say slurs which just shows how little they actually value us.

this is not an issue exclusive to women!!!!!! at all!!!!! you are targeting this post against women for no reason!

Because I was specifically talking about my experience as a gay man and how straight women treat us. Of course other groups experience homophobia but that has nothing to do with gay men which was what I was originally talking about

As a gay guy it’s an issue predominantly seen with straight women actually! Stop pretending you see this happen commonly with straight men and gay guys!

i completely understand that that’s an issue. i’ve seen it several times myself. HOWEVER the way you worded some of your comments were misogynistic, and that’s why we’re having this conversation. we aren’t discussing whether straight women can be fake allies. we all know that. the issue is that you continue to push down women, intentionally or not, with every comment

again, i fully believe you!!!! i know this is a thing that happens!!! nobody is denying that. you keep trying to convince us that women can be fake allies when we all know that’s the case.

Well no, because you keep saying it’s misogynistic if I don’t say “homophobic people” when I am trying to specifically point out the dynamic between gay guys and straight girls!

I have only been arguing that straight women can oftentimes be fake allies. I never claimed all women are horrible and evil or that they’re a problem in the community. My post even says “aren’t always” which means I’m not saying there aren’t good straight women. But a lot of straight women are at best ignorant and at worst secretly homophobic. I didn’t realize pointing out the dynamic between gay men and straight women is misogynistic if it means saying some straight women can be fake.

I don’t know, I don’t really find slurs funny especially when someone who wouldn’t be called that slur is using it. It’s distasteful imo but to each their own.

It’s disproportionately an mlm slur but even if it weren’t I still don’t think slur jokes are funny. Much less a woman calling a guy that because again it’s disproportionately an mlm slur. Just feels distasteful.

I agree that slur jokes aren’t funny. That’s not what your post is about. And I don’t think the proportion is as lopsided as you think it is.

Look up the slur online and you’ll see the definition literally refers to gay men. I’m not denying that other people don’t get called it, but it is predominantly and disproportionately a slur used against queer men.

You saw a woman make a TikTok comment with 4k likes. This comment contains the algorithm-friendly version of the f slur. You concluded that straight women are unreliable allies (and seemingly, that the 4k people who liked the comment were all straight women). Alternative conclusions could include: A gay and/or trans woman made a joke reclaiming the slur, a homophobe made a slur joke that read as “gay” to a number of people, the 4k likes include some gay people who want to reclaim the slur, etc

Because I’m talking about the dynamic between gay men and straight women? The lesbian experience is difference. Of course they experience homophobia at the hands of straight men but that’s just a separate conversation. I am talking about gay MEN who have a different experience to lesbians.

What about this experience is “gay men” specific? Have you never encountered men who claim to be allies but through around the d slur?
