Also it’s wild to see how far people went to the point of just saying they have the same struggles as black people. But the whole gingers=the black people of white people, (I think that’s what the joke was??) does make me wonder if part of a historical hatred of red hair was from England and was another anti Irish thing? As many Irish people have red hair, and it’s seen as a “Irish thing?” (And historically horrific treatment towards the Irish from England)

Just thinking out loud, not saying that gingers or even Irish people have it worse or the same as black people, as Irish are considered white now, and even in the past, were considered better than poc, so it’s definitely not the same, I’m just thinking about the origin of the red hair = bad thing

no yeah obvi the joke stems from the other joke of gingers being weird or whatever, and i have also been curious abt its origins, as i used to be a ginger(alopecia totalis moment). its actually common in many different cultures to view redheads as ghoulish in some manner, so while it does partially originate with the brits hating the irish for sure, theres also multiple different cultures that it stems from as well

Oh yeah I have no doubt there are multiple diffrent reasons, I’ve seen some people say that it used to a antisemitic stereotype that Jewish people had red hair, and that potentially in the bible it said Judas had red hair?

i’ve heard that eve had red hair. and i am a jewish redhead and yes!! i think this was more common historically than it is now since a lot of people have lost that association, but it was/is an antisemitic thing for some!!

i think the antisemitism bit has lost a great deal of its staying power in recent history due to the fact that a lot of people view jews stereotypically as middle eastern rather than european, but i’m full blooded ashkenazi lol

Omg the lizard people thing pisses me off so muchhh. Because even if you don’t know it’s antisemetic can’t you connect the dots when ppl go “the elite are all lizard people controlling the global wealth.”
