NEW DISCOURSE if you’re one thing but openly label yourself as another, why? How do you see it impacting other queer experiences?

I think definitionally I’d be a demi-boy but I just say I’m a trans man bc it easier than having to explain my whole gender to someone new. Also definitionally I’m probably considered pan bc I don’t care the gender of my partner, I care about how they are as a person but I just say I’m queer. I’ve seen too much discourse about labels and im just tired of it so I go with what’s the easiest for me but irl none of my friends give a shit and they’re supportive so that’s what matters imo

I’d technically say I’m pansexual but I say bi (if I mention that I’m queer at all) because it’s just more easily understood to the general public.

I myself ID as a trans gay man, but it’s not really what I am. If I were to realllly get into it, I’m pangender and pansexual, but I’m pre-transition and don’t feel comfortable exploring my attraction to women yet. This has definitely hurt some people’s perceptions of the queer community, but most people have been understanding and learn a bit about what being closeted means on a personal level

First question of the discourse - does this hypothetical queer person exist

Mostly because people have such a narrow view on gender so I go the easiest route to avoid confrontation

i feel more pan than bi, but i tell people i’m bi if i think (1) somebody’s not going to care enough about learning what that is that it’s worth my emotional work or (2) somebody’s going to think i think i’m ‘above’ bi people bc i use that label.

The day we as a queer community no longer feel the need to do this will be a day to remember

Ur good ❤️ like, if you use labels that don’t accurately reflect who you are, why do you do that and what impact does it have (if any) on how people see you/other queer people

Oh so like if someone decides to identify as a trans man even if they know they’re like bi gender or something?

Yep!

If that’s what you mean then I think it sounds like people could be trying out different labels for themselves and that’s perfect fine! Not everyone knows instantly and some may never know so why not try things out!

Exactly! This, and using different labels for safety/comfort, hurts nobody and is all perfectly valid
