unfortunately most friendly terms derive from words for brother but I feel like “pal” (even though it’s also from brother) isn’t really associated with that

that’d be so fun I highly encourage it! I also spend a lot of time in quaker / quaker-adjacent and irish language communities where everyone just uses “friend / a chara” buttt I feel like people outside those spaces find it old-fashioned haha
