I know a lot of debates about trans med and dysphoria on this app, but I have a genuine question that kinda reverses the script. Could a person that gets a proper diagnosis of gender identity disorder/ gender dysphoria, still identify as cis?

yes, there are some people who do. there are cis women who get top surgery and a few documented cases of cis men who have had some form of bottom surgery, as well as cis people who take cross-sex hormones. oftentimes they need to receive a gender dysphoria diagnosis to access/have insurance cover transition related healthcare. depending on how they frame their experience and/or their clinicians interpretation of the DSM, they may or may not need to lie or claim to be nonbinary.

This is a genuine question and I do not want to upset or disrespect others, I am just curious what others take on this topic would be.

to piggyback on this, there is a cis guy who was pretty active on r/phallo because he had a psych episode and had to get a phalloplasty. he developed severe dysphoria due to not having a penis anymore. it’s very rare but cases like these do happen
