And if I said you can’t be a feminist if you support the porn industry 👀 👀?!

You see on one hand I support the idea that people should be able to safely do whatever they want with their bodies, on the other hand I hate how the industry exploits men, women, and even children.

I’d say that that’s an un-nuanced way of expressing your take. More elaboration is required. First, good job specifying the porn *industry* and not *porn.* It’s important to keep in mind that it is an industry, and like all industries under capitalism, is not worker-owned. Second, do not think less of sex workers. This wasn’t necessarily implied by your post, but it’s important to keep in mind. Third, the synthesis and most important bit, DO NOT BE AGAINST PORN BECAUSE OF PURITANICAL BELIEFS

Again, not *necessarily* criticizing you here. Just broader trends I see among people who “hate the porn industry”

“Puritanical beliefs” is a phrase I’ve genuinely only seen used by porn addicts LOL. Not a diss it’s just funny. We can respect sex workers and not the work they do. And sex work isn’t necessarily synonymous with porn/porn industry, yes. Those can be two different conversations. I was referring specifically to mainstream porn content, OnlyFans and such. Someone who supports in terms of donating, subscribing, retweeting and sharing porn content, specifically regularly, can not be a feminist.

Yeah so… noooo. First, “puritanical beliefs” is a specific phrasing, yes. But it’s not exclusive to discussions of porn. The more broadly applicable, cultural term would be “purity culture” which you’ve definitely heard (if not experienced) before.

No, from experience It’s also unfortunately a phrase adopted by gooners if you dare say anything against porn. ( Twitter specifically ) Being against porn doesn’t have to be inherently puritanical or..”purity culture” esp when it comes to discussions of feminism.

Second, onlyfans is entirely different from the traditional porn industry, and generally speaking, creators own their work on that kind of website. I think fansly is similar? I’m not super sure: I’m more of a smut reader. Third, no, consuming and sharing porn content doesn’t make one *not* a feminist. Why would consuming sexually stimulating content featuring actors make you antifeminist? (Again, assuming that the porn isn’t the product of an antifeminist environment)

…a phrase can used by gooners on twitter, as well as by other people. It’s not exclusive to one or the other. And I didn’t say that it’s inherently puritanical to dislike and object to porn. I specifically said it wasn’t.

OnlyFans and Fansly CAN be independent. But all the most popular creators across those platforms are just reskinned pornstars from the old mainstream content sites. It’s the same process. They are scouted and hired and have directors and profits they have to split. You’ve only been made to believe it’s more morally correct to be a pornstar on OnlyFans lol. And because it’s incredibly hard to remove the porn you are watching and sharing to a “ethic source.” i.e. independent creators.

There is certainly a thing as ethic porn consumption. 90% of people don’t practice that, or don’t commit fully. So I’m speaking in a more general sense.

A quick google search of (top-earning onlyfans creator name) + independent reveals that a lot of them are independent. Not disagreeing that there’s industrialization happening, but still, it’s better than it used to be (at a glance, anyway)

And a lot of them are also in “content houses” creating grooming content for 17 year old girls, while also including 17 year old girls in their promotional material on TikTok. And they also create content that is supposed to catch the eyes of teen boys. So even when they are independent, they are horrible people and it exposes what exactly helps the porn industry run. 🤷 but I’ll end it with this to help. If you consume content of this nature regularly, you cannot be a feminist.
