idk about the active addiction one though… addiction kinda prevents a person from fully considering and making the decision to quit so its not really their own choice at that point- also i don’t think my father had a right to continually get drunk when that led to neglect and abuse

Wtf addicts cause harm to those around them. My bio dad was an alcoholic who screamed and yelled at and hit my mother. He had no right to do that. No right to alcohol. Also neurodivergent ppl can cause harm to those around them as well. Yay to trans ppl of course but the 2 groups I mentioned above. No fucking way. You don’t have a right to be an addict or treat ppl like shit cause you’re neurodivergent.

1 and 3 aren’t valid… you’re not “woke” for believing this either. You’re unintelligent and dangerous.

Someone please tell my doctor this. I have a chronic migraine disorder and with medication it’s gone from a 10/10 every day (literally every single day) to a 2/10 but they want it to be 0. The last meds I haven’t tried are injectable. I’m scared of needles and tell them that at every appointment. They won’t accept my no! The most effective meds are the ones I take and I just won’t be able to stab myself!

when it's affecting other people that's a different story, but when it's only affecting the person with the addiction some ppl just dont want to get better. it's familiar, it's what they're used to, it makes sense for them to not want to stop especially if they dont have all the help they need to stop in the first place.

Yeah I agree, I’ve never seen an example of where someone’s addiction wasn’t directly harming the ppl around them, that’s why families/friends do interventions to tell the person how their addiction is negatively affecting the ppl around them and how much they care

allowing addicts to continue to abuse instead of implementing harm reduction to reduce dependence is disgusting. You have no moral high horse to sit on. Take several steps back. Are you even educated? I fear not.

Could you please point to where anyone in this thread is ok with allowing addicts to continue abusing others or being anti-harm reduction? people can hold nuanced opinions, not everything is black an white with such a complex issue

Look at the first bulletin on the list. If the goal isn’t to recover there’s no point in implementing it. They’re better off ODing.

I completely disagree, harm reduction like narcan saves lives, even if they’re temporarily upset you killed their high it’s better than letting them die. Theres been studies that show the more that they have been revived the more likely they are to seek help and recover down the line, but even if they don’t choose that initially it doesn’t mean attempts to help are in any way ineffective or inherently unethical,

We exist, but it's not common I'll admit. I'm addicted to alcohol but I just use it to fall asleep, and I never drink socially, just in the quiet of my room before bed. Only person I'm harming is myself. I'm starting Naltrexone and a php program soon, whish me luck yall💛

You don’t think your family or friends care about your addiction?

they care, but until very recently they didn’t even know. if you’re going to argue that that’s harm, I already know, but what I mean by “only harming myself” is that I keep to myself when I drink and function normally in daily life
