I feel like people use afab and amab to mean girl and boy even when talking about nonbinary people.

99% of the time, it’s just their “workaround” to misgender and ignore who someone actually is.

The amount of times I’ve talked about my experience as a trans woman and someone goes “Yeah but all AMABs do xyz…” …

“Well you were socialised as a man!” Actually, no. I was a mother first to my own mom and then to my friends. Even when I was cis-passing, I was always called mom, I was at the sleepovers, I was always amongst the gals. I have had a total of five guy friends in my life. I don’t understand guys and how they think— I was never around them to learn. 😒

AGAB terms come from intersex people using the gender their doctor marked them as to discuss the ways in which the medical institution fucked us up to "look like a real girl/boy." It got adopted by perisex trans ppl who found a similar use from it to talk abt how they were forced to behave as a specific gender. Then essentialits got to it & now its often used to talk about "male socialization" and how people are "basically girls/boys."
