“used the cancer card” is a truly deranged way to describe someone disclosing a life-altering health issue during an interview there’s no way you believe NOT having cancer is gonna somehow lower your chances of being hired

how tf was this post even remotely relevant to the group topic? why was it up for two full hours with zero pushback?

They don’t have cancer anymore, we both have clean bills of health

And it was a sales job in which you try to get people to buy shit a good way to do that is to humanize yourself like say opening up about having cancer once upon a time.

So yea it was disclosing a life altering issue that affected them years ago. It would be like me bringing up a surgery I had done that allowed me to hear… When I was a child

oh sure, if someone survived cancer then in the aftermath they’re just as healthy as you are 👍 and also if they survive then it’s manipulative and opportunistic for them to ever bring it up

Don’t say manipulative and opportunistic as a bad thing. This is sales use every card you got.

Like literally I’m just saying, I accept defeat. I can’t beat someone who beat cancer. They can have the job. They deserve it.

quick, explain what’s relevant to LGBTQIA community about you failing a job interview and blaming it on someone who lived through childhood cancer

Quick explain to me how it’s relevant that you quoted my post and posted in the same community. You’re assuming a lot of things right now you need to take a step back. They didn’t survive childhood cancer. They got it when they were in their like 40s or something. They’re 50 now so idk

nope, if your post had been in the spirit of “damn, you survived cancer? you deserve this job more than i do” then you wouldn’t have framed this as “using their ‘cancer card’” to begin with

And we don’t know if I failed the interview yet I’m just saying they have a more compelling story and by all means I would hire them. I’m not upset about it. Hence I said I should probably find a different job.

No, I would because I’m comfortable saying cancer card because cancer runs in my family and I’m very comfortable around cancer and people who survived cancer.

cool, so it was less than a decade ago that they were dealing with cancer, and you’re still gonna act like bringing it up is an inherently calculating move

Actually, my great grandmother died of cancer and then a few others died of cancer, but my grandfather and grandmother did survive and so did my uncle. One of my grandfather’s didn’t die of cancer, but he did die with cancer. It just wasn’t the cause. He had prostrate cancer and died of a heart attack.

Considering it wasn’t relevant to the interview question asked and they brought it up when they were literally doing a sales pitch

I would say they used it strategically

wow, that makes it even more alarming that you had such a cynical reaction to someone else talking about their experience with cancer

You’re right when this person was trying to sell the interviewer a lawnmower. It was completely relevant for them to talk about cancer that they had 10 years ago. And state it and use it for a reason why this lawnmower is better and you should buy the lawnmower. They in no way shape or form tried to use it to motivate you to buy their product.

For more context, they were saying when they had cancer Sunday it was so hard for them to find the motivation to go and mow their lawn, but with this lawnmower, you can program it and I’ll mow the lawn by itself. When you use your cancer as part of your self pitch, you’re using a cancer card.

yeah, see, your original post made it perfectly clear that you can’t imagine the subject being brought up unless it was for manipulative reasons. you don’t need to keep digging yourself deeper

It’s crazy how you said they in no way tried to use it to sell the product and then immediately explained exactly how they used it to sell the product 😭

How tf do you know their current health status 😭

So they advertised something as disability-friendly & tied their own personal experiences into it (both good selling tactics) and you said "wow they get this job because they have cancer my life is so hard" maybe you're just ableist. And you should link their gofundme because having ever had cancer is a preexisting condition which means before 2022 insurance companies would just deny coverage of anything for cancer patients.
