I feel like people just don’t know that there’s a difference but we’re all under the trans umbrella. I’m still technically transgender even though according to definition I’m transsexual. Plus there’s famous transsexuals who say shit things to distance themselves from ‘transgender people’ for… optics??
Sex is not entirely* chromosomal. But you can only see someone’s chromosomal sex if you test for them. When you do that you find that there are plenty of people who do not have xx or xy chromosomes, and thus your definition of sex is missing genitalia, which (especially for humans) is a defining factor in determining sex. Transsexuals are defined by desire to make the sex-defining organs match what their gender identity is.
Chromosomes can be a definition of sex but it comes with the issue that there are a lot of pairings and we don’t test it often so it’s unclear how many people divert from the “norm” of xx and xy. But what I would define sex as is a cluster of physiological characteristics, this could be affected by your genitals and whatever hormones you had during puberty but also when undergoing hrt your body will actually pull to one side or the other and doctors will actually refer to you as male or female
i actually completely go by different pronouns than i was assigned at birth and i dont respect people invalidating the people who dont have access to resources for genital surgeries. gender is such a spectrum that you could decide it was a bad choice to even get that surgery in the future
What does this have to do with anything? You were getting pissy that people have a better understanding of something than you do and called us “too woke” for not thinking surface level about sex (a notoriously complex thing) not a single person is invaliding anyone cause sex doesn’t equal gender
ok thank you for understanding, I take back any insults I made since you’re open to listening. identifying as transsexual is a celebration of wanting/achieving some level of medical transition, and it mirrors yet differs from the gender spectrum. someone here mentioned not being transgender but being transsexual, for example. I myself am non-binary but am “fully” medically transitioning.
ofc this isn’t meant to invalidate people who aren’t/can’t medically transition. i actually know people who can’t medically transition yet but identify as transsexual (just like how someone’s boy/girlmoding but is still trans). it’s an identity and in no way meant to invalidate others, just like how trans women aren’t invalidating non-binary trans fems by being “more transfem.” there’s not meant to be an implication of hierarchy, it’s really just specifying who you are
