United Healthcare denied me gender affirming surgery because it’s not medically necessary… A hysterectomy would solve the extreme pain I’m in. I hate being trans on days like today.

Worst part is if you were cis they wouldn’t question it for a second

I’d switch to a different insurance if I were you

They’ve been so much worse since Trump got in office. They magically “lost” my prior authorization for my testosterone… less than 5 hours after receiving it and confirming. They’ve recently ran me through the ringer just trying to get the surgeon covered (she is, United billed an entirely different insurance to deny me). I’m so done with this.

I doubt it honestly, I’ve heard horror stories of the hoops people have to go through “think of your future husband” and stuff. Whole system is fucked

I mean, he’s innocent, but still. Healthcare CEOs need to be more afraid

The best part is that my current partner wouldn’t ever want to inflict that on me. He’s 100% for adoption if it makes me more stable.

I can’t alas. I’m covered under my father’s insurance and the university option is the same one. So I’m practically screwed

Do you qualify for Medicaid? It’ll be tough, but it’s not impossible.

As have I I just mean if it was medically necessary as op is saying they are in pain it wouldn’t be a question of if it was frivolous by insurance bc it wouldn’t count as trans healthcare

Oh I’m sorry about that, I wish you weren’t in that situation. Would you be comfortable speaking to your dad about your hysterectomy? Maybe if you can get him on your side, he could possibly talk to them to try to change their minds.

My faher’s on my side for it through and through. He’s my biggest supporter. His insurance has given him problems too. We’re still lucky because between both of us, our meds would cost $5,000 without insurance.

That’s good that he’s on your side!! I hope he accepts all of you!! But damn, 5k for meds is insane. Could you apply for Medicaid? I know someone else here recommended it, but if you can, do it. If you can’t, I know Blue Cross Blue Shield will cover the hysterectomy. That’s the insurance I use under my mom and they’ve approved of mine.

I know BCBS is not the best insurance, but, hey, it approved of my hysterectomy that I’ll be having next year. Maybe it will help you and your dad.

Ik this is old but I found it from the update and have to tell you you’re wrong. I’m cis and have been trying to get a hysterectomy for years and it’s always “you’re too young” “try something less permanent first” (I’ve tried it all) “you’ll change your mind one day and I don’t want that on my conscious” “I don’t want to get sued” “try therapy” “try physical therapy”. It’s not a cis vs trans issue. I’ve actually heard of people pretending to be trans to access hysterectomies before Trump

No, I’m “legally” cis (just not out to doctors and on no hormones) and they won’t do it. My mother, my grandmother, and 3 of my aunts all struggled to get hysterectomies, and were not allowed to until they had kids. This is one of the few cases where it’s not a transphobia issue, it’s a bodily autonomy issue.
