im the same age and yep. coming out was a big deal. the fallout over it could be so horrible. i had friends kicked out of their houses and beaten up by their parents. this was NOT a long time ago. dont take their ignorance personally the kids just don't know. a lot of our older gen queers died so i feel like we had to fend for ourselves but at least we can educate the newest gen.
