My buddy kind of outed himself as gay last night when he was drunk but it was definitely a slip up. How can I make him feel safe enough to consensually come out? We're in a masculine heterosexual friend group

Approach him privately and say like hey, i overheard you say this while drunk, i understand it can be hard to feel accepted and safe but i’m here for you if you need to talk

So I should be more direct rather than saying stuff like "I think gay people are pretty dope man"

Yeah of course. I’m kind of speaking from experience. I am a trans gay man and started my transition before college and I was passing when I joined a fraternity and became friends with a bunch of straight cis guys. I had one of them privately say something bc he had overheard me talking about to someone else.
