I routinely see LGBTQ+ people our age get their socks blown off when they find out many elder LGBTQ+ people proudly identify as transvestites or transsexuals, and many despise the term queer. You have to remember that they grew up in a completely different time. LGBTQ+ rights and terminology have both changed so drastically in their lifetime.

To me it’s really “being queer is freeing” for the elder folks and “being queer is personal” for younger folks. Old folks don’t fucking care what you are they’re just happy you’re you. Younger folks constantly want to separate themselves from the sea to cling to uniqueness that the older queers couldn’t care about. And that’s an in general generational divide too. Young folks constantly care about others and their place. Old folks are too old to care and do whatever lol
