sorry genuine question: i really can’t tell the gender of someone i work with and i don’t want to ask bc we never work one on one and potentially out them i was just using they/them to be neutral but then someone in another post says that’s wrong so idk

I agree with #1! also just to add on rather then asking for gender just ask what pronouns they use

I mean if you get the chance to privately ask them you should but I think just going with the neutral here is smart and safe

^^Yes as someone who has been the gender-ambiguous person in the office, ask their pronouns! And then be an ally and use them when referencing them to other colleagues so they catch on too, as maybe they’re confused or assume. I had such an uncomfortable/awk experience at a job and wished people would just ask me instead of assuming. I eventually advocated for myself but was rly nervous to do so
